The re-purposing of the late 19th century “Annex Building” slices the middle third out of a solid concrete facade added in the early 1960’s to create a dramatic entry and presence on Congress Street. A new steel and glass entry canopy provides welcoming access for the retail use on the ground floor with office use on the upper two floors and basement. Inside, all levels are opened up to each other with a four story monumental stair and light shaft that provides access and natural light to all floors.

The project gives new life to a formerly beleaguered and downtrodden building and reveals the potential to re-energize our urban environment.
