Good nutrition plays a vital role in the positive mental and physical development of our children. Unfortunately there are many kids in our community who simply don’t have enough to eat to keep their minds and bodies strong and growing properly. The Community Food Bank plays an important role in satisfying this growing need for our younger population.
We wanted to create a CANstruction sculpture that would draw attention to this extremely important issue while also having some fun and artistic license. Our group started with scanning a youngster’s head to create a three dimensional surface map. We then worked with the shape of a sardine can turned upside down to develop the shape into multiple layers to build up the form of our sculpture. Much like the multiple pixels of an electronic image, all of these layers and individual cans combine to produce the outer volume of the human form you see in front of you.
