As the fires raged in Pacific Palisades in late 2019 and the water dropping helicopters hovered over the flames, our design team grappled with the tenuous relationship of man to nature and the much needed balance between the two.
These two sculptures create an abstraction of the two basic elements, fire and water, that created and then distinguished the blaze during the events of late October.
Fire Block is a three dimensional representation, in negative, of flames that are laser cut out from wood layers in the same overall size of the original block of wood provided for the event.
Water Block creates abstracted air bubbles that are inserted into acrylic layers to represent this precious, life giving substance.
